Will our little boy is is almost 4 and I've started think oh no he should be
going to primary school next year but have no idea where to start! (I've
been in a panic about it and have been googling)

What am I suppose to do, and what should I be looking for in a primary
school! ?

How Do I find one suitable for him?

Sorry for all the questions but I would appreciate any advice :-)

Its going to be scary sending him to school all on his own :(

Does your son go to any sort of pre-school or playgroup, or do you see
other parents of children your sons age or with school age children
where you live? Talking to the parents of your son's peers would be a
very good start.

Also, your health visitor should be able to give you advice on this
(registering etc).

Do you have a large choice of primary schools where you live? Most
primary schools have websites so you can look at their policy on new
intake and when you'll be able to go and look around the school.

Going to school IS a big step, but shouldn't be scary. It would be a
good idea to forge some friendships with your son's new school mates
so that he won't feel he's going "all on his own".

I would also add that if he is nearly four, he will most likely be due to
start school next September and the admissions process will probably already
have closed - it is usually around November time. So I would start looking
into it without delay!
Good luck!

That was my thought too. Ours closed in mid October. Unless you've moved
area then you get put to the bottom af the waiting lists as a late entry.

Go and see your local primary school. The nearest one. Ask to have a
look round and sign him up.

You're probably supposed to have registered with the council when he
was about 5 minutes old but they have to give him a place so don't
worry.

Don't send him on his own. Walk him there!
:)

They might let you stay for a little bit on his first few times,
especially if he's not been to nursery - BUT - he'll love it!

They have to offer him a place, but it may be at a school you don't
really want - even if it's just a school some miles away when there's
another that's ten minutes' walk from home. Your local education
authority should be able to tell you whether this is an issue where
you live - it usually depends whether the local schools are
over-subscribed - and it's also worth asking other parents in the area
about their experiences. In particular it's worth talking to other
parents who are applying right now, or whose children have started
school in the last year or two
