Our son (8) would like to open his own savings account.
We thought something like a PO saving account would be ideal but it
seems that the account they offer now requires a min. deposit of £20
for each deposit (not just the initial one).

Does anyone know of a suitable account? We would like him to have a
pass book and be able to easily put in a pound here and there and to
easily be able to withdraw money.

A bank or building soc. which is open on Saturday would be ideal.

We are not too bothered about interest rates as he's not going to have
vast amounts of money.

Alternatively is there a good website I could visit to find out about
such things.

Thanks,

Mary Ann

Nationwide... thats open on Sat morning.

I think the halifax might be, and perhaps the post office too.

My son has a nationwide account. There's a goodie bag you get but its
not the best bag of stuff ever.

You can fill in a form to ensure tax isn't deducted from the interest.

I'd second Nationwide, their interest rates are pretty good too even if you're not
that bothered, but probably the main issue is which bank/BS's have a branch local to
you. Most seem to open Sat am and I think most will do a passbook kids account. Other
than rates and trivial freebies they'll all be much the same. Get him to practice his
signature before going!

Thanks Andy and Mogga,
We went for the Ipswich in the end, mainly because they have one in
our nearest town (no Nationwide).
He is thrilled because he supports Ipswich Town Football Club!

Too late about the signature, but you are right, I should have got him
to pracise, especially as he had to write it with invisible ink!
